Product Overview
HSM's 129-grain Hornady SP is for shooters who want a conventional soft point in a .260 Remington load. The bullet is a Hornady soft point, a jacketed lead core with exposed lead at the nose, and HSM loads it to 2,900 fps at the muzzle with 2,409 ft-lbs of energy.
Compared with Hornady's Superformance 129-grain SST, which uses a polymer-tipped Hornady bullet of the same weight, the HSM load is close at the muzzle. The SST starts 30 fps faster with 50 ft-lbs more energy, and the two kick within about 1 percent of each other in the same rifle. Compared with Nosler's Trophy Grade 130-grain AccuBond, a bonded-core bullet with a polymer tip, the HSM is the faster load: the AccuBond leaves the muzzle 200 fps slower, with 305 ft-lbs less energy, and kicks about 6 percent less in the same rifle.
Buy the HSM load if you want a plain soft point at close to the SST's muzzle speed. Pick the Superformance SST if you want Hornady's tipped bullet; Hornady markets it for medium game. Pick the Trophy Grade AccuBond if softer recoil matters more than speed; Nosler markets it for deer-sized game. Pick DoubleTap's 127-grain Barnes LRX if you need a lead-free bullet; DoubleTap markets it for deer, hogs, antelope and bear, and it leaves the muzzle 100 fps faster than the HSM.
