Product Overview

PMC Bronze 132gr FMJ is a South Korean-made range load that punches above its weight class. At 917 fps and 232 ft-lbs of muzzle energy, it runs hotter than most .38 Special practice loads in the 130-grain range. That extra velocity comes from PMC's slightly heavier 132-grain bullet and a warmer powder charge. The result is a load with a bit more authority that still qualifies as comfortable to shoot in any .38 Special revolver.

PMC manufactures ammunition for the South Korean military, and the Bronze line uses the same production standards scaled to commercial specifications. The FMJ bullet keeps barrels clean over long shooting sessions. Brass cases are boxer-primed and work well for reloading. PMC brass tends to be on the harder side, which means it lasts through more reloading cycles before case mouths start to split.

Among the 130-132 grain .38 Special FMJ loads, PMC Bronze delivers the most energy after the Fiocchi Range Dynamics at 950 fps and 260 ft-lbs. Winchester USA and Remington UMC both sit at 800 fps with 185 ft-lbs. Federal's American Eagle lands at 890 fps and 229 ft-lbs. PMC's 917 fps puts it in second place for velocity, and its 232 ft-lbs of energy makes it a good match for shooters who want their practice load to approximate the snap of a carry load more closely.

Strengths
  • 917 fps is the second-fastest 130-132gr FMJ .38 Special load available
  • 232 ft-lbs of muzzle energy gives a more realistic recoil feel compared to softer practice loads
  • PMC brass is hard and durable, lasting through more reloading cycles than softer domestic brass
  • FMJ construction keeps the bore clean and is permitted at lead-restricted indoor ranges
Limitations
  • Higher velocity produces more felt recoil than 800 fps alternatives from Winchester and Remington
  • 132-grain bullet is a non-standard weight that does not match common 130gr or 158gr defensive loads
  • PMC availability fluctuates more than domestic brands like Federal and Winchester
