About This Firearm
The Sig P320's modular fire control unit changed how handguns get sold in America. The serialized trigger group drops out of the grip module and into a different frame size, so one registered component works across full-size, compact, and subcompact configurations. No other striker-fired 9mm on the market offers that. The military validated the platform when the U.S. Army adopted the M17/M18 variants in 2017 after extensive endurance testing.
In full-size trim, the P320 carries 17+1 rounds in a 28.3 oz package measuring 8.0 inches overall. The stainless steel slide adds weight compared to the Walther PDP Full Size at 22.3 oz, but the mass helps manage recoil during rapid fire. The SIGLITE night sights ship standard, which saves the sight upgrade most competitors require out of the box. The optic-ready slide accepts common red dot footprints. The 6.5 lb striker trigger has a smooth take-up into a defined break, though it runs 1.5 lbs heavier than the Springfield XD-M Elite's 5.0 lb META trigger.
Run at least 200 rounds through a new P320 before trusting it for home defense. Most owners report flawless reliability from the start, but a break-in period with your chosen defensive ammunition confirms feeding and ejection patterns specific to your gun. The recoil spring settles in after the first few hundred rounds, and owners note the slide action smooths noticeably during that period.

Strengths & Limitations
- The modular fire control unit lets you reconfigure between full-size, compact, carry, and subcompact frames and swap calibers between 9mm, .357 SIG, and .40 S&W. No other striker-fired platform matches this flexibility from one serialized component
- SIGLITE night sights come standard, eliminating the $80-120 sight upgrade most competitors require immediately after purchase
- The M17/M18 military contract validated the design through extensive endurance testing. Law enforcement agencies across the country issue the P320 as a duty sidearm
- The 6.5 lb trigger runs 1.5 lbs heavier than the Springfield XD-M Elite's 5.0 lb META trigger and 2.7 lbs heavier than the Canik METE SFT's 3.8 lb pull. Aftermarket trigger kits from Apex and Gray Guns improve this but add time and complexity
- At 28.3 oz, the P320 weighs 6.0 oz more than the Walther PDP Full Size (22.3 oz) and 3.6 oz more than the S&W M&P M2.0 (24.7 oz), making it one of the heavier polymer-framed full-size 9mms

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the P320 handle a steady diet of +P ammunition?
Sig rates the P320 for unlimited +P use. The stainless slide and barrel handle the higher chamber pressure without accelerated wear. Running +P regularly will wear the recoil spring faster, so plan on replacing it every 3,000-4,000 rounds instead of the typical 5,000-round interval. Recoil spring assemblies take about 5 minutes to swap.
What grip modules work with the P320 Full Size fire control unit?
The fire control unit fits all P320 grip modules: full-size, carry, compact, subcompact, and the X-series variants. The Wilson Combat and Icarus Precision grip modules also accept the standard FCU. Switching modules takes about 60 seconds with a single takedown lever. Each module changes the grip angle, length, and width while using the same serialized trigger group.
Did Sig fix the P320 drop-safety issue?
Yes. Sig implemented a voluntary upgrade program in August 2017 that modified the trigger, disconnect, and striker to prevent unintended discharge when dropped. All P320s manufactured after August 2017 include the updated design. Used guns from before that date may not have the upgrade, but Sig still performs the modification at no charge. Check the serial number with Sig's customer service to confirm upgrade status.
