About This Firearm

At 1.1" wide, the Glock G43X is the thinnest 9mm Glock carries. The full-height 5.04" grip gives a complete three-finger hold that neither the Sig P365 nor the S&W Shield Plus can match without extended basepads. That grip is why owners who have tried multiple subcompacts consistently rank the G43X as the most natural-pointing gun in the class. The trade-off is 10 rounds versus 12 for the P365 XL and 13 for the Shield Plus.

The 18.7 oz weight and 0.87" slide width make this gun disappear under a T-shirt in ways that 1.3" double-stack subcompacts cannot. The 5.4 lb trigger has a soft initial take-up before a defined wall, which reviewers describe as predictable but not exceptional. The 3.41" barrel produces more muzzle rise than longer-barreled compacts, and the light weight means less mass absorbing recoil. Split times are slower than on a 23 oz gun. That is the math on carrying less weight.

Glock released the G43X in 2019 as a bridge between the too-small G43 and the too-wide G26. The original G43 forced shooters into a two-finger grip; the G26 added grip circumference without grip length. The G43X fixed both problems by stretching the frame vertically while keeping it narrow. It has outsold the G26 since launch, and the aftermarket has followed accordingly.

Best For

GOOD
Concealed Carry
At 1.1" wide and 18.7 oz, the G43X tucks flat against the body during appendix carry. The 5.04" grip height gives a full three-finger hold that the Sig P365 and Shield Plus require extended basepads to match. Owners report it vanishes under a T-shirt where 1.3" guns print noticeably.
FAIR
Home Defense
Ten rounds is workable but thin for home defense. The slim mounting rail accepts compact lights like the TLR-7 Sub, but any compact or full-size 9mm with 15+ rounds is a better dedicated home gun. The G43X fills this role only if it is the only handgun in the house.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths
  • Full three-finger grip at 5.04" tall in a frame only 1.1" wide. The Sig P365 and S&W Shield Plus both need extended basepads to avoid a curled pinky. The G43X fills the hand as shipped.
  • At 18.7 oz, it is the lightest Glock 9mm. Daily carriers who have switched from the G26 at 21.69 oz report noticeably less fatigue and fewer clothing adjustments throughout the day.
  • The Glock Slimline aftermarket has grown rapidly since 2019. Holster availability now rivals the G19, and Streamlight, Surefire, and other light manufacturers make dedicated models for the slim rail.
Limitations
  • Ten-round factory capacity is 3 rounds behind the Shield Plus at 13 and 2 behind the Sig P365 XL at 12. Both competitors carry more ammunition in packages that weigh roughly 1.5 oz more.
  • The magazine ecosystem is isolated. G43X mags do not fit any other Glock, and no larger Glock mags fit it. Each replacement is a standalone purchase with zero cross-compatibility across the Glock lineup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the G43X and the G48?

Same frame, grip, width, and magazine. The G48 adds a longer 4.17" barrel and 6.85" slide versus the G43X's 3.41" barrel and 6.06" slide. The G48 gives a longer sight radius and slightly less muzzle rise from the extra slide mass. The G43X conceals easier because of the shorter slide. They share magazines, so some owners buy both and swap based on the day's plans.

Does the silver nPVD slide finish wear faster than black nDLC?

The standard G43X ships with Glock's silver nPVD slide finish. It shows holster wear sooner along edges and contact points than the black nDLC found on the G19 or G17. The wear is cosmetic and does not affect corrosion resistance or function. The G43X MOS variant ships with a black nDLC slide if the silver bothers you.

How does the G43X handle with 124gr defensive ammo?

The 18.7 oz weight means more felt recoil than heavier subcompacts. Federal HST 124gr runs about 1,150 fps from the 3.41" barrel, well above the 1,000 fps threshold for reliable expansion. Owners report the recoil is manageable but snappier than a G19. Practice with your carry load and expect more muzzle rise than a 23+ oz gun.
