Product Overview
Remington HTP 100-grain JHP leaves the muzzle at 1,235 fps with 339 ft-lbs of energy. HTP is Remington's hollow point for personal defense. Its power factor of about 124 falls just short of the 125 USPSA minor floor. From a 25-yard zero it prints 1.1 inches low at 50 yards and 8.6 inches low at 100, so a center hold works out to 50 yards.
Speer Gold Dot 115-grain JHP is the other hollow point in the caliber, and the two take different routes to the same energy. The HTP is 85 fps faster with a bullet 15 grains lighter, and the two land within 1 ft-lb of each other at the muzzle, 339 against 338. In the same pistol the HTP produces about 14 percent less recoil energy than the Gold Dot. That is the main reason to choose it: the same muzzle energy for noticeably less recoil, which matters most in a small carry gun.
Buy the HTP to carry if you want the softer-shooting of the two hollow points. For practice, Federal American Eagle 100-grain FMJ is a close match: it leaves the muzzle 15 fps faster and drops only 0.2 inches less at 100 yards, so practice with it carries over almost directly to the HTP. Shooters who want the heavier bullet should buy the Gold Dot instead.
