The P229 Legion is SIG's tuned compact DA/SA pistol: a P229 with a Grayguns-designed trigger, G10 grips and a list of grip and control changes, finished in Legion Gray Cerakote. It suits someone who wants the P226 Legion's upgrades on a frame that is easier to carry. It weighs 31.1 oz and is 7.4 inches long.
For carry, the changes that matter are a reduced and contoured beavertail that SIG says cuts printing and low-profile decocking and slide catch levers that are less likely to snag. It also gets the P-SAIT trigger on top of SIG's Short Reset Trigger, more aggressive checkering, an X-Five undercut and a solid steel guide rod. The SIG Sauer P229 Elite weighs 1.3 oz less and keeps the standard curved trigger, SIGLITE night sights and two magazines. The SIG Sauer P226 Legion adds a 0.5-inch longer barrel and weighs 1.9 oz more. The HK P30 is a polymer-frame DA/SA alternative with a rear decocking button, and HK lists no optics-ready version.
Buy the P229 Legion if you want a factory-tuned DA/SA pistol you can carry and fit with a dot. Skip it if you will keep the gun at home or at the range; the P226 Legion gives you a longer sight radius with the same Legion upgrades.

No. It relies on the decocker and an automatic firing pin safety. SIG also makes a single-action (SAO) P229 Legion with a flat trigger, and that version has a thumb safety.
