About This Firearm
The G19 Gen5 MOS adds a factory optic cut to the standard G19 Gen5 while keeping the same 4.02" barrel, 15-round capacity, and 7.28" overall length. The slide weighs 23.81 oz, only 0.18 oz more than the standard model's 23.63 oz. Glock includes adapter plates for Trijicon RMR, Holosun, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, and other common red dot footprints. If you plan to run a dot on a compact 9mm and want Glock's parts ecosystem behind it, the MOS is the straightforward path.
The adapter plate system is the MOS platform's known weakness. The plates sit 3-4mm between the slide and optic, raising the dot higher than a direct mill. Aftermarket plates from C&H Precision and CHPWS eliminate most of that gap. The Kimber KDS9c and Walther PDP Compact both offer direct-mount optic cuts from the factory without adapter plates, giving a lower optic sit and tighter tolerances at the slide-to-optic interface.
For first-time red dot users, replace the stock plastic sights with suppressor-height night sights before mounting an optic. The factory sights sit too low to co-witness through a mounted dot, so a dead battery or broken optic leaves you without backup irons. Ameriglo and Trijicon both make drop-in options that clear common red dot housings.

Strengths & Limitations
- Factory optic cut with included adapter plates for RMR, Holosun, DeltaPoint Pro, and other common footprints. No aftermarket slide milling needed to run a red dot.
- Weighs 23.81 oz, only 0.18 oz more than the standard G19 Gen5 at 23.63 oz. The optic cut adds almost no weight penalty.
- Full access to the G19's aftermarket ecosystem. Every holster, magazine, sight, and trigger made for the G19 Gen5 works on the MOS.
- Adapter plates sit 3-4mm between the slide and optic, raising the dot higher than a direct-milled cut. The Walther PDP Compact and Kimber KDS9c both offer lower-sitting factory optic mounts.
- Stock plastic sights sit too low for co-witness with a mounted red dot. Suppressor-height night sights are a near-mandatory add-on for anyone running an optic.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I direct-mount an RMR on the MOS without the adapter plate?
No. The MOS cut is deeper than a direct RMR footprint, so the adapter plate fills the gap. C&H Precision and CHPWS make aftermarket plates that sit lower than Glock's included plates and tighten the optic-to-slide interface. Most MOS owners replace the factory plates within the first month of ownership.
Do I need suppressor-height sights with a red dot on the MOS?
Yes, if you want backup irons visible through the optic window. The stock plastic sights sit too low to clear any mounted red dot housing. Ameriglo GL-429 and Trijicon HD XR are the two most common choices. They let you co-witness through the dot so a dead battery or broken optic does not leave you without sights.
