About This Firearm
Every full-size 9mm on this page uses a tilting barrel and polymer frame. The CZ 75 B does neither. The frame is steel. The slide rides inside the frame instead of on top of it. The result is a 34.3 oz handgun that sits low in the hand and barely moves when fired. Owners who switch from polymer striker guns consistently report less muzzle rise and tighter groups within the first range session.
The DA/SA trigger system asks you to learn two trigger pulls. The first shot runs through a long double-action stroke. Every shot after breaks at 4.5 lbs in single-action, lighter than what most striker-fired competitors deliver. The manual safety, firing pin block, and hammer safety notch give you three independent safety mechanisms. Fixed 3-dot sights and a 6.1-inch sight radius handle precision work at 25 yards. No rail. No optic cut. The 16-round capacity trails 17- and 18-round polymer guns by a small margin.
The original CZ 75 entered production in 1975 in Uhersky Brod, Czechoslovakia. More than 60 countries adopted it or its variants for military and police service. The design influenced an entire generation of handguns, and USPSA Production shooters still run the 75 B and its derivatives because the all-steel construction keeps the gun flat during rapid strings of fire.
Best For
Strengths & Limitations
- The all-steel frame at 34.3 oz absorbs 9mm recoil so effectively that owners switching from polymer guns report noticeably flatter shooting within the first magazine
- The 4.5-lb SA trigger is lighter than the HK VP9 at 5.4 lbs and the FN 509 at 5.5 lbs, with a clean break that requires no aftermarket work
- Cold-hammer-forged barrel with a 6.1-inch sight radius delivers consistent accuracy at 25 yards across published tests
- No accessory rail and no optic cut. The Walther PDP Full Size and Springfield Echelon both include rails and factory optic mounting at similar weight classes
- Sixteen-round capacity is 2 rounds short of the CZ 75 SP-01 and 1 round behind most polymer full-size 9mms shipping with 17-round magazines

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I dry-fire the CZ 75 B safely?
Yes. CZ confirms the 75 B is safe to dry-fire without snap caps. The firing pin block prevents damage during dry practice. Many owners dry-fire regularly to master the DA-to-SA transition. If you want extra peace of mind, snap caps are inexpensive and eliminate any concern about long-term wear on the firing pin.
What is the difference between the CZ 75 B and the CZ 75 SP-01?
The SP-01 weighs 40.7 oz versus 34.3 oz for the 75 B. The SP-01 holds 18 rounds versus 16. The SP-01 adds a Picatinny rail for weapon lights and ships with tritium night sights instead of basic 3-dot sights. Both share the same 4.6-inch barrel and 4.5-lb SA trigger. The SP-01 has rubber grips versus the 75 B's plastic grips. If you want a rail and more capacity, get the SP-01. If you want a lighter steel-frame gun for range use, the 75 B is enough.
