Product Overview

Atomic's Bonded Match Hollow Point combines two features that rarely appear together in .44 Magnum ammunition: match-grade accuracy and a bonded hunting bullet. The 240gr projectile at 1,500 fps generates 1,199 ft-lbs of energy, placing it well above standard 240gr loads. The bonded core welds the jacket to the lead, which prevents the bullet from shedding its jacket on impact with heavy bone. That weight retention means the bullet holds together through shoulder joints and ribs, reaching vital organs reliably.

The match-grade manufacturing tolerances show up at the range. This load groups tighter than typical hunting ammunition, which matters for shooters who use scoped revolvers or lever-action rifles at distances past 50 yards. Hunters who take careful, placed shots on deer rather than snap-shooting at close range get real benefit from that accuracy. The 1,500 fps velocity also keeps the trajectory manageable, with less holdover at 75 yards than slower 240gr loads require.

The bonded construction adds cost per round, but it eliminates the failure mode that worries experienced hunters most: jacket separation. Standard cup-and-core JHPs can shed their jackets on angled bone hits, which sends the core tumbling and reduces penetration. The Atomic bonded bullet stays intact through those impacts. For hunters who carry their .44 Magnum as a primary hunting tool rather than a backup, this load provides the bullet integrity that one-shot opportunities demand.

Strengths
  • Bonded core prevents jacket separation on angled bone hits for deep penetration
  • Match-grade tolerances produce tighter groups than typical hunting loads
  • 1,500 fps and 1,199 ft-lbs of energy provide strong terminal performance on medium game
  • Consistent accuracy at extended handgun ranges where shot placement matters most
Limitations
  • Premium bonded construction costs significantly more per round than standard JHP loads
  • Match accuracy benefits are wasted at typical close-range defensive distances
  • Recoil from the 1,500 fps velocity is noticeable in revolvers under 40 oz
  • Bonded bullets expand less aggressively than unbonded JHPs at the same velocity
