Product Overview

Ammo Inc loads their Signature .40 S&W with a 180-grain total metal jacket bullet at 958 fps, generating 367 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. The TMJ design fully encapsulates the lead core, including the base of the bullet. That matters at indoor ranges where airborne lead is a concern. Standard FMJ rounds leave the bullet base exposed, which releases lead vapor on ignition. The TMJ eliminates that issue.

The 958 fps velocity is on the lower end for .40 S&W, which works in this round's favor for extended shooting. Less velocity means less snap. Shooters who put several hundred rounds downrange in a single session will notice the difference in hand fatigue compared to hotter loads from Aguila or Federal. The brass case handles extraction and ejection without issues and holds up well for reloading. Ammo Inc manufactures in the US, with production facilities in Arizona and Wisconsin.

This ammunition is built for volume shooting at the range. The TMJ bullet gives it an edge at any indoor facility that restricts exposed-lead ammunition. It also works for outdoor practice, steel plate shooting, and general marksmanship drills. The 180-grain weight keeps the recoil character close to most .40 S&W defensive loads, so your trigger work and grip pressure translate when you switch to carry ammo.

Strengths
  • Total metal jacket fully encases the lead core, reducing airborne lead and meeting indoor range requirements that ban exposed-base bullets
  • Mild 958 fps velocity keeps recoil manageable during high-volume training sessions
  • US-manufactured with brass cases that reload cleanly and consistently
  • 180-grain bullet weight mirrors common defensive loads for realistic training
Limitations
  • 367 ft-lbs of muzzle energy is the lowest among comparable .40 S&W range loads, trailing Speer Lawman (400 ft-lbs) and Fiocchi Training Dynamics (392 ft-lbs)
  • TMJ projectile has no expansion capability, limiting this round to target and training use only
  • Ammo Inc is a newer manufacturer with a shorter track record than established names like Federal or Speer
