Product Overview

Winchester Service Grade .380 ACP fires a 95-grain FMJFN (flat nose) bullet at 955 fps, delivering 190 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. On paper, those numbers match the Winchester USA .380 load exactly. The difference is the bullet profile. The flat nose creates clean, round holes in paper targets instead of the ragged tears you get from round-nose FMJ. That makes scoring easier during timed drills or qualification shoots where you need to see exactly where each shot landed.

The Service Grade label puts this a step above Winchester's basic USA white box line. Compared to the Remington UMC at the same 955 fps but with 192 ft-lbs, and the CCI Blazer Brass at 945 fps and 188 ft-lbs, the Winchester sits right in the same performance neighborhood. The flat nose profile feeds just as reliably as round-nose FMJ in modern semi-autos. Some older pistols with steep feed ramps can be particular about bullet shape, but that's uncommon with current .380 designs.

This ammo works well for structured practice and training courses where shot placement tracking matters. If you're running drills that require counting hits in specific scoring zones, the clean holes save time and reduce arguments over edge hits. It also pairs naturally with your carry .380 since the 95-grain weight and 955 fps velocity closely match most defensive loads. For casual plinking, the standard round-nose USA line does the same job for less money. The Service Grade earns its place when precision scoring is part of your range routine.

Strengths
  • Flat nose bullet punches clean round holes in paper, making target scoring faster and more accurate
  • 955 fps and 190 ft-lbs match the Remington UMC closely at 955 fps and 192 ft-lbs
  • 95-grain weight replicates the recoil of most .380 defensive loads for realistic training
  • Service Grade designation indicates tighter manufacturing tolerances than standard white box ammo
Limitations
  • Costs more than Winchester's own USA white box line while delivering identical velocity and energy
  • Flat nose profile may not feed smoothly in older pistols with steep or rough feed ramps
  • 190 ft-lbs falls behind the CCI Blazer Brass at 188 ft-lbs only marginally, offering little real advantage
  • The scoring benefit of flat nose holes only matters during formal drills or competitions, not casual practice
