Product Overview
Hornady's 140gr ELD Match is the factory load that helped make 6.5 Creedmoor the default precision rifle cartridge. The Extremely Low Drag bullet leaves the muzzle at 2,710 fps with a G7 BC of 0.326, which translates to less wind deflection and drop than any standard soft point or FMJ in this caliber. At 1,000 yards, that BC advantage adds up to several MOA less drift in a 10 mph crosswind compared to conventional 140gr bullets.
The Heat Shield tip is what separates this bullet from older match designs. Conventional polymer tips soften from aerodynamic friction during flight, which changes the drag profile and opens groups at distance. Hornady's tip material resists that deformation, so the bullet flies the same whether it is the first round of the day or the twentieth. PRS and NRL competitors rely on this consistency when building DOPE cards that need to hold true across multiple matches and weather conditions.
This load belongs in competition rifles and precision training sessions. It is the benchmark that handloaders try to replicate when developing their own 140gr match recipes. For shooters who want to practice with the same ammunition they compete with, the ELD Match delivers sub-MOA accuracy in most quality bolt guns and many gas rifles. It is not a hunting bullet and should not be used on game, but for steel and paper from 100 to 1,200 yards, it is the standard the rest of the field chases.
- G7 BC of 0.326 retains velocity better at distance than the Norma SP (0.373 G1) or Aguila FMJBT (0.256 G7), giving it a measurable wind advantage past 600 yards
- Heat Shield tip resists aerodynamic deformation that degrades accuracy in conventional polymer-tipped match bullets
- Factory ammunition that routinely prints sub-MOA groups, making it a reliable baseline for testing new rifles
- Industry-standard 140gr match load with widely available DOPE data and ballistic solver profiles
- Match bullet construction is not designed for expansion on game and should not be used for hunting
- Premium price per round makes high-volume practice expensive compared to the Aguila FMJBT or Winchester USA OTR
- Accuracy advantage over cheaper range ammunition only becomes apparent past 400 yards, so it is overkill for close-range plinking
