Product Overview
Ammo Inc's Signature .380 Auto uses a 100-grain Total Metal Coating bullet at 890 fps, producing 176 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. That's heavier and slower than most .380 range loads. The Federal American Eagle pushes a 95-grain FMJ at 980 fps for 203 ft-lbs, and the PMC Bronze runs a 90-grain FMJ at 961 fps for 185 ft-lbs. What you get with the heavier Ammo Inc load is a softer recoil impulse and reduced lead exposure from the fully encapsulated bullet.
The TMC design wraps the entire bullet, including the base, in a copper jacket. Standard FMJ rounds leave the base exposed, which allows hot gas to vaporize lead during firing. That matters most during high-volume indoor range sessions where ventilation can only do so much. The full encapsulation also tends to produce less barrel fouling than traditional jacketed bullets, so you can shoot longer between cleanings.
This round works best as affordable practice ammo for your .380 carry gun. The 100-grain weight is heavier than typical defensive loads, so it won't perfectly replicate your carry ammo's recoil. But it feeds reliably in compact pistols and gives you enough trigger time to stay sharp on fundamentals like grip pressure, sight tracking, and follow-up shot placement. If you shoot indoors regularly, the TMC design is a genuine advantage over standard FMJ options from Winchester or Fiocchi.
- Total Metal Coating fully encapsulates the lead core, reducing lead vapor exposure during indoor shooting
- 100-grain bullet weight produces a mild, slow-push recoil that is easy to manage in compact pistols
- TMC design generates less barrel fouling than standard FMJ rounds from Federal or Fiocchi
- Feeds reliably in older .380 pistols with tight feed ramps where round-nose FMJ can hang up
- 890 fps is the slowest in the .380 practice category, well below the Federal American Eagle at 980 fps
- 176 ft-lbs of muzzle energy is the lowest among comparable .380 range loads
- 100-grain weight doesn't match the 90 to 95 grain profile of most .380 defensive ammunition
- Lower velocity may cause cycling issues in some pistols tuned for standard-pressure loads
