Product Overview

The Nosler Expansion Tip .260 Remington delivers a 120-grain E-Tip bullet at 2950 feet per second, generating 2320 foot-pounds of muzzle energy. The E-Tip represents Nosler's lead-free hunting projectile, constructed entirely of copper with an expansion cavity and polymer tip. At 0.413 G1 ballistic coefficient, it trades some aerodynamic efficiency for the regulatory compliance and environmental benefits of lead-free construction.

The E-Tip's solid copper construction provides distinct terminal characteristics. Upon impact, the polymer tip drives into the expansion cavity, forcing the bullet to open into a controlled mushroom while retaining nearly 100% of its weight. This means deep, straight-line penetration even through heavy bone. The lighter 120-grain weight paired with high velocity creates a flatter trajectory at medium distances compared to heavier bullets.

Hunters in California, where lead ammunition is banned for hunting, or those who prefer lead-free options for personal reasons will find this load effective. The combination of retained weight and controlled expansion works well on deer, antelope, and wild boar. The higher velocity makes it suitable for shots across open terrain where holdover estimation matters. The copper construction also eliminates concerns about lead contamination when harvesting meat for consumption.

Strengths
  • 100% lead-free construction complies with California and other jurisdictions requiring non-toxic ammunition
  • Solid copper bullets retain virtually all their weight, providing deep penetration on tough angles
  • Higher 2950 fps velocity delivers flatter trajectory than heavier loads, simplifying holdover at unknown distances
  • Eliminates lead fragmentation in harvested meat for cleaner processing
Limitations
  • The 0.413 BC lags behind conventional lead-core bullets—the AccuBond at 0.488 and SST at 0.485 drift less in wind
  • Copper bullets require higher impact velocities for reliable expansion compared to lead-core designs
  • Lead-free ammunition typically costs more than equivalent conventional hunting loads
  • Lighter bullet weight means less retained energy at extended range despite higher muzzle velocity
