Product Overview
Barnes markets its 55-grain VOR-TX as a hunting load. It uses Barnes' TSX Flat Base bullet, an all-copper hollow point with no lead core. The bullet carries a G1 BC of .209 and leaves the muzzle at 3,240 fps with 1,282 ft-lbs of energy. Zeroed at 200 yards, it drops about 8 inches at 300.
Compared with Sig Sauer's 60-grain Elite, another solid copper load, the Barnes starts 140 fps faster with almost the same muzzle energy, and it kicks about 11 percent less in the same rifle. Compared with Federal's 62-grain Fusion MSR, a bonded soft point with a lead core, the Barnes leaves the muzzle 490 fps faster but slows down sooner. At 300 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Barnes about 14 inches sideways and the Fusion about 11. The Fusion kicks about 5 percent harder in the same rifle.
Buy the Barnes if you want an all-copper hunting bullet with a fast start and light recoil. Pick the Sig Sauer Elite if you want a copper bullet 5 grains heavier and accept a little more recoil. Pick the Fusion MSR if your shots often run past 300 yards in wind and you prefer a bonded bullet with a lead core. For varmints, Hornady markets its Varmint Express 55-grain V-Max for that job, and it leaves the muzzle at the same 3,240 fps.

- Starts with 1,282 ft-lbs of energy against 1,041 for the Federal Fusion MSR 62-grain
- Matches Sig Sauer's 60-grain Elite for muzzle energy, 1,282 ft-lbs against 1,280, with a lighter bullet
- Speer's Gold Dot 55-grain drifts a little less in wind, about 13 inches at 300 yards against about 14
- At 300 yards it carries 475 ft-lbs of energy, against 520 for the Federal Fusion MSR 62-grain
