About This Firearm
The Sig P320 Full-Size .357 SIG is the same modular striker pistol the U.S. Army adopted as the M17 in 9mm, with a different barrel chambering. Same removable fire control unit, same full-size grip module, same 4.7" barrel length, same 8.0" overall length. Capacity is 14+1 in .357 SIG versus 17+1 in the Sig P320 Full Size 9mm, since the bottleneck cartridge takes more room in the magazine. At 29.4 oz unloaded, the gun runs the same external dimensions as the 9mm version with the .357 SIG barrel and a recoil spring tuned for the higher chamber pressure.
The P320's serialized fire control unit is the platform's defining feature. The trigger group lifts out of the polymer grip module and drops into a different frame size, so one registered component covers full-size, carry, compact, and subcompact configurations. Sig also sells X-Change Kits that convert the same fire control unit between 9mm, .357 SIG, and .40 S&W with barrel, slide, magazines, and recoil spring all in one package. This is unique in the striker-fired market. The Glock G31 Gen4 .357 SIG requires a separate registered pistol per caliber; the P320 needs only one.
The 6.5 lb trigger is the P320's main weakness in the .357 SIG configuration, the same trigger as the 9mm version, just heavier than the 5.5 lb Glock G31 trigger and meaningfully heavier than the Sig P226 .357 SIG's 4.4 lb single-action pull. SIGLITE night sights ship standard, the Picatinny rail accepts standard duty lights, and the optic-ready slide takes common red dot footprints with the included plate system. The stainless steel slide and 29.4 oz weight produce noticeably softer felt recoil than the polymer-framed Glock G31, which weighs 26.1 oz. That 3.3 oz difference shows up over a string of shots, especially with 125gr loads near the cartridge's upper velocity range. The P320 fits the shooter who wants a duty-length .357 SIG with a striker trigger and the option to convert calibers later without buying another pistol.

Strengths & Limitations
- The serialized fire control unit converts between 9mm, .357 SIG, and .40 S&W via X-Change Kits. No other striker-fired .357 SIG pistol offers this on a single registered component.
- SIGLITE night sights, optic-ready slide, and Picatinny rail all ship standard. Most competitors in the caliber require aftermarket sight and slide work before duty or defensive use.
- Stainless steel slide and 29.4 oz weight produce softer felt recoil than the polymer Glock G31 at 26.1 oz. Reviewers consistently note the P320 in .357 SIG as one of the easier striker-fired guns to shoot accurately in the caliber.
- The 6.5 lb striker trigger is 1 lb heavier than the Glock G31's 5.5 lb pull and significantly heavier than the Sig P226 .357 SIG's 4.4 lb single-action break. Aftermarket trigger kits from Apex and Gray Guns improve the pull but add cost and gunsmithing time.
- No factory threaded barrel available in .357 SIG. Aftermarket threaded barrels from KKM and Lone Wolf exist but at higher cost than the 9mm threaded options Sig sells directly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I buy the complete P320 .357 SIG pistol or just the X-Change Kit?
If you already own a P320 in 9mm or .40 S&W, the X-Change Kit (~$400-500) converts your existing pistol to .357 SIG and includes a barrel, slide, recoil spring, and magazines. The complete pistol makes sense only if you do not already own a P320, or if you want a dedicated .357 SIG that stays configured for the cartridge full-time. Owners report swapping calibers via X-Change Kit takes about 60 seconds with a single takedown lever and adds essentially no wear to the serialized fire control unit. The kit is the more economical path for any existing P320 owner.
Did Sig's drop-safety upgrade apply to the .357 SIG P320?
Yes. Sig's August 2017 voluntary upgrade program modified the trigger, disconnect, and striker to prevent unintended discharge when dropped, and the upgrade applies to every P320 caliber: 9mm, .357 SIG, and .40 S&W. All P320s manufactured after August 2017 include the updated design. Used P320 .357 SIG pistols from before that date can be sent to Sig at no charge for the upgrade. Check the serial number with Sig customer service to confirm upgrade status before carry.
Do P320 .357 SIG magazines work with .40 S&W X-Change Kits?
Yes. .357 SIG and .40 S&W share the same case head dimensions, so the same magazine feeds either cartridge in the P320. The 14-round full-size .357 SIG magazine functions as a 14-round .40 S&W magazine when paired with a .40 S&W barrel and slide. 9mm conversion is different — it requires 9mm-specific 17-round magazines, which ship with the 9mm X-Change Kit. This is part of why .40 S&W to .357 SIG (or back) is the easier swap on the P320 platform.
