Federal's HST 230gr JHP is purpose-built for personal defense from a .44 Magnum revolver. At 1,085 fps and 601 ft-lbs, it runs intentionally below full-power magnum levels. Federal designed this load to be controllable in shorter-barreled revolvers while still delivering the expansion and penetration that the HST bullet is known for. The nickel-plated brass cases resist corrosion and feed smoothly under stress.
The HST bullet is the same design that law enforcement agencies across the country carry in their duty pistols. In .44 Magnum, the larger-diameter bullet creates a wide wound channel even at the reduced velocity. The intentional power reduction makes follow-up shots faster and more accurate than full-house magnum loads.
