The Hornady Precision Hunter 150gr ELD-X is built for hunters who take shots past 200 yards. The 0.574 BC keeps the bullet supersonic well past 800 yards, and the Heat Shield tip won't deform from aerodynamic heating during flight. At 2770 fps from the muzzle, it carries over 1,800 ft-lbs of energy at 300 yards—plenty for clean kills on deer and similar-sized game.
This load works best on whitetail, mule deer, and pronghorn at medium to long range. The ELD-X bullet expands differently depending on impact velocity: at close range it mushrooms aggressively with 50-60% weight retention, while distant hits produce controlled expansion with 85-90% retention. That versatility means you can take a 50-yard timber shot or a 400-yard field shot with the same load.
