At 400 yards, this load retains more velocity and energy than loads that started faster at the muzzle, because the aerodynamic advantage compounds over distance.

The ELD-X uses a two-stage expansion system. At close range where impact velocities are high, the Heat Shield tip drives back into the bullet body and the nose folds outward for rapid energy transfer. At longer range where velocities have dropped, the thick jacket and InterLock ring keep the bullet together for deep, controlled penetration. That dual design means the bullet performs correctly from 50 yards to past 500 yards, which is a broader effective window than any conventional soft point in the caliber can deliver.
