Hornady built the American Whitetail line specifically for deer hunters, and this 129gr InterLock load makes the most of the 6.5 Creedmoor platform. The bullet leaves the barrel at 2,820 fps with 2,277 ft-lbs of muzzle energy, matching the Winchester Super-X in raw numbers. Where the InterLock pulls ahead is its G1 BC of 0.445, which is significantly higher than the Power Point's 0.324. That translates to a flatter trajectory and less wind drift past 200 yards.

The InterLock ring is a raised band inside the jacket that mechanically locks the core to the jacket during expansion. This prevents the core separation that standard cup-and-core bullets can suffer on heavy bone hits. The practical result is higher weight retention, deeper penetration, and more consistent wound channels than a conventional soft point at the same weight. On quartering shots through a whitetail shoulder, that difference matters. The bullet stays together and reaches vitals instead of fragmenting in muscle.

This load is purpose-built for whitetail inside 400 yards. The 129gr bullet keeps recoil mild in standard-weight hunting rifles, and the InterLock construction handles any shot angle you are likely to encounter on deer. It does not carry the energy for reliable elk performance past 200 yards, and the soft point design will not match the wind-bucking ability of the Hornady ELD-X (0.625 G1 BC) at extreme distances. But for its intended purpose of putting venison on the table, it is one of the best-designed deer loads in the caliber.
