Federal loads the Barnes 300gr TSX at 1925 fps for 2469 ft-lbs of energy. The all-copper bullet expands to nearly double its diameter while retaining 100% of its weight. This makes it effective on elk, moose, and large boar where you need both expansion and penetration through heavy bone.
The TSX works well across a range of distances. At close range, the copper petals open reliably even at high impact velocity. Past 150 yards where velocity drops, the bullet still expands thanks to its aggressive hollow point design. Hunters who want lead-free ammunition without sacrificing terminal performance should consider this option.
