About This Firearm

Beretta released the 30X Tomcat in 2024 as a ground-up modernization of the 3032 platform. Same tip-up barrel, same aluminum frame, but with a list of meaningful changes: 8+1 capacity (up from 7+1), a 1/2x28 threaded 2.4" barrel as standard, suppressor-height post-and-notch sights, a Helica-textured polymer grip, and a 3.4" sight radius. The frame is bigger to accept the textured grip and higher-capacity magazine, putting weight at 16.2 oz and overall dimensions at 5.3" length and 1.3" width.

The 30X is the answer to the most common complaints about the older 3032 Tomcat: the slick grip, the unthreaded barrel, and the standard sights that no can would clear. The newer gun is positioned below the original 3032 in Beretta's lineup, which is unusual for a follow-on model with more features than the gun it replaces. Beretta is the only mainstream maker still actively developing .32 ACP pistols — the 30X in 2024 and the 80X Cheetah Tactical in 2026. Most other manufacturers have either dropped the caliber or kept legacy models in catalog without updates.

Any 2026 .32 ACP buyer eventually compares the spec sheet to modern micro 9mms like the Sig P365 (17.8 oz, 10+1 of 9mm, 1.0" wide). The 30X loses on every metric except one: the tip-up barrel. A surprising strength of the 30X is how well it solves problems the original 3032 had on paper but in practice. The textured grip and the higher-visibility suppressor-height sights make it a meaningfully more shootable pistol than the 3032 ever was — owners migrating from the older Tomcat consistently report tighter groups with no change in shooting technique.

Best For

GOOD
Suppressor Host
The 1/2x28 threaded barrel and suppressor-height sights are both factory standard. No need to upgrade sights after the fact. Rimfire-rated cans are the typical pairing for .32 ACP, and the 30X is the only mainstream pocket gun in the caliber built from the factory to run one.
GOOD
Limited Hand Strength / Arthritis
The tip-up barrel removes slide racking from loading entirely. The 30X keeps this feature from the original 3032 and adds a textured grip that gives owners with weaker grip strength a more secure hold on the gun during recoil.
GOOD
Pocket Carry
At 16.2 oz and 5.3" overall, the 30X is still pocketable in a coat or larger pant pocket. The textured grip improves the draw stroke compared to the slick 3032 grip. Suppressor-height sights snag slightly more on the draw than flush sights but stay clear of most pocket linings.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths
  • Suppressor-height sights and 1/2x28 threading are factory standard. No aftermarket sight install needed to run a can, which is unusual at this size and price.
  • The Helica-textured grip is a real improvement over the smooth 3032 panels. Owners report it stays put under recoil and during draw from a pocket holster.
  • 8+1 capacity is the highest in Beretta's .32 ACP pocket pistol lineup.
Limitations
  • Beretta still has not certified the 30X for +P .32 ACP. The aluminum frame carries the same standard-pressure-only limitation as the older 3032 line.
  • 30X magazines are not interchangeable with the older 3032 family. Owners with a 3032 sitting in a safe cannot pool magazines across both guns.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the first upgrade most 30X Tomcat owners do?

The most common first purchase is a pocket holster sized specifically for the 30X — older 3032 pocket holsters do not fit because the textured grip and slightly different slide profile change the gun's dimensions. The second most common upgrade is a rimfire-rated suppressor to take advantage of the factory threading and suppressor-height sights. Spare 8-round magazines are also a frequent first buy because Beretta only ships one with the gun.

How does the 30X compare to the original 3032 Tomcat for daily carry?

The 30X is 0.2" wider and runs a redesigned skeletonized trigger about 35% lighter than the original 3032's, while adding capacity, sight visibility, grip texture, and threading. For most buyers the trade is favorable. The exception is shooters who specifically chose the 3032 for its smaller profile. If your carry holster is a slim front-pocket setup with a tight inseam, the 3032 is still the more pocketable option. For coat-pocket or jacket carry, the 30X is the better pistol.

What ammunition runs reliably in the 30X Tomcat?

Standard-pressure FMJ from Fiocchi, Sellier & Bellot, and Magtech is the baseline most owners use for both practice and carry. Hollow points are hit or miss in any pocket .32, including the 30X — Hornady Critical Defense and Federal Hydra-Shok in .32 ACP are the two loads forum users report cycling most reliably. Test any carry load with at least 50 rounds before trusting it.
