Product Overview
Fiocchi's Training Dynamics .45 Colt loads a 225gr complete metal jacket bullet at 750 fps, producing 281 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. The lighter 225gr weight and full copper jacket make this a clean-shooting range load. CMJ bullets fully encase the lead core, which reduces airborne lead exposure at indoor ranges and cuts down on barrel fouling compared to exposed-lead designs. At 750 fps it's a soft-shooting load safe for any .45 Colt revolver.
The complete metal jacket is the main draw here. Unlike traditional lead flat nose bullets used in most .45 Colt range ammo, the CMJ keeps lead contained inside the copper jacket. This matters if you shoot at indoor facilities that restrict exposed-lead ammunition. The 225gr weight is lighter than the typical 250gr .45 Colt bullet, which drops muzzle energy to 281 ft-lbs. For comparison, the Sierra Sports Master 225gr JHP at 850 fps generates 361 ft-lbs with the same bullet weight but at higher velocity. The Fiocchi trades that energy for a milder shooting experience.
Range training and target practice are the clear applications. The reduced recoil from the 225gr bullet at mild velocity lets you run through practice sessions without fatigue. It works in single-action revolvers, double-action revolvers, and lever guns chambered in .45 Colt. The CMJ design also makes it legal at ranges where unjacketed lead is banned. This is strictly a practice load. It won't expand on impact and doesn't carry enough energy for hunting. Shooters who want to practice with .45 Colt without dealing with lead cleanup will appreciate what this load offers.
- Complete metal jacket eliminates airborne lead, making it safe for indoor range use
- 225gr bullet at 750 fps produces very mild recoil for extended practice sessions
- Brass case and clean-burning powder keep revolvers running longer between cleanings
- Approved at ranges that prohibit exposed-lead ammunition
- 281 ft-lbs of muzzle energy is among the lowest in the .45 Colt lineup
- Non-expanding CMJ bullet has no hunting or defensive application
- Lighter 225gr weight may shoot to a different point of impact than standard 250gr loads
- Typically costs more than basic lead round nose practice ammunition
