Hornady Custom .357 SIG 147gr XTP JHP takes a different approach to .357 SIG defensive loads. Where most run 125gr bullets fast, this load uses a heavier 147gr XTP at 1,225 fps. The result is 490 ft-lbs of energy with a bullet designed for controlled expansion. The XTP jacket has serrations that initiate opening while the thicker base drives penetration.
The heavier bullet changes the recoil impulse compared to standard 125gr loads. Some shooters find the push of a 147gr easier to manage than the snap of a faster, lighter bullet.
