Hornady's 120gr ELD Match is the lightweight option in their 6.5 Creedmoor match lineup. At 2910 fps, it is the fastest ELD Match load in this caliber, generating 2256 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. The 0.486 G1 BC is lower than the heavier 140gr and 147gr ELD Match loads, but the speed advantage gives it a flatter trajectory inside 600 yards. For mid-range precision work, steel challenge matches, and shooters who prefer less recoil, this load has clear benefits.

The reduced recoil is a real advantage in competition formats that require fast follow-up shots. The 120gr bullet generates noticeably less felt recoil than a 147gr load at the same velocity, and the faster muzzle speed makes it easier to spot impacts through the scope. PRS shooters working stages at 200-600 yards will find the trajectory flat enough to use simple holdovers rather than dialing elevation for each target.

This load also stabilizes easily in all common 6.5 Creedmoor twist rates, including the occasional 1:8.5 barrel. The Heat Shield tip maintains its shape in flight, so the BC stays consistent regardless of temperature or altitude. At distances past 800 yards, the lighter bullet does lose velocity faster and becomes more affected by wind than the 147gr version. Shooters who regularly engage targets beyond that range may want to step up in weight.
