Product Overview
Federal's HST 124gr JHP is the round that more law enforcement agencies carry than any other 9mm load. It pushes a 124-grain hollow point at 1150 fps for 364 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle. The HST bullet uses a pre-scored jacket that opens into six consistent petals on impact, expanding to roughly .60 caliber while still penetrating 13-14 inches in bare gelatin.
What separates the HST from most hollow points is how it performs through barriers. The bullet holds together through heavy denim, auto glass, and plywood without plugging up or fragmenting. A lot of JHP designs fail that test. The HST passes it because the jacket and core are mechanically locked together rather than just swaged. Nickel-plated cases help with chamber checks in low light and resist corrosion if the ammo sits in a carry gun for months.
This is a primary carry and home defense load. The 124-grain weight offers a middle ground between the snap of 115gr and the push of 147gr, and most shooters find it controllable in compact pistols. If you carry a Glock 19, SIG P365, or Smith M&P, this is the load that law enforcement has already proven works in those platforms.
