About This Firearm

Few sub-chassis-tier .308 bolt-actions ship AICS-pattern from the factory with a 20 MOA rail, a heavy fluted barrel, and a threaded muzzle. The Savage 110 Tactical did, and it is what happens when a budget-tier manufacturer builds a dedicated precision bolt gun without cutting the wrong corners. The 24-inch heavy fluted barrel is threaded 5/8x24 and sports a 20 MOA EGW Picatinny rail from the factory, so it ships ready for a magnified optic and a suppressor or muzzle brake without buying anything extra. At 141.92 oz (about 8.9 lb), it is heavier than most hunting rifles in .308 but that weight is intentional — the AccuStock aluminum bedding block runs the full length of the action, and reviewers consistently note it eliminates the flex you get from a standard polymer stock bed.

The AccuTrigger is adjustable from 1.5 to 6 lbs without a gunsmith, which puts it in genuinely useful territory for a precision platform. The 10-round Magpul AICS magazine is the same format used by the Tikka T3x TAC A1 and a wide range of chassis systems, so adding a second mag is a straightforward purchase. The AccuFit system lets you swap cheek risers and length-of-pull spacers with a screwdriver — a practical advantage for shooters who want a consistent head position behind a high-powered optic.

Savage discontinued the 110 Tactical, so new production is gone and street prices reflect that scarcity. If you find one in stock, it is a precision-ready platform with an AICS-pattern magazine well, a 20 MOA Picatinny rail, a threaded 5/8x24 muzzle, and a full-length aluminum bedding block — features usually found only on purpose-built chassis rifles. Buyers who want the same AICS magazine format in a currently-produced gun should look at the Tikka T3x TAC A1, which adds a true folding aluminum chassis but at a substantially higher price. The 110 Tactical made sense as a no-frills, factory-accurate precision rifle that did not require an expensive aftermarket chassis upgrade to be useful at 500 yards.

Best For

GOOD
Precision / Long-Range Shooting
The 24" barrel, 20 MOA factory rail, and AccuTrigger adjusted down to 1.5 lbs give this rifle everything a precision shooter needs without aftermarket work. The 1:10 twist stabilizes 175–185gr match bullets reliably.
GOOD
Suppressor Host
The 5/8x24 threaded muzzle and heavy 24" barrel make this an effective suppressor platform. The extra barrel length recovers some of the velocity loss from a suppressor's added back-pressure, and the weight helps absorb the extra muzzle device mass.
FAIR
Field / Hunting
At 8.9 lb empty before an optic, this is not a pack rifle. The 46.5" overall length makes it awkward in a blind or tight terrain. Capable of the accuracy for ethical hunting shots, but purpose-built hunting bolts are easier to carry.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths
  • AccuTrigger adjusts from 1.5 to 6 lbs without removing the action — shooters can dial it to competition-weight pulls without a gunsmith visit or aftermarket trigger purchase.
  • Ships with a 20 MOA EGW Picatinny rail and a 10-round Magpul AICS magazine, two accessories most precision rifles charge extra for.
Limitations
  • Out of production — availability is patchy and prices vary widely depending on what dealers have in stock. Parts and factory support are limited.
  • The 141.92 oz (8.9 lb) empty weight is significant. Add a quality scope and rings and you are carrying over 11 lb to the bench or the field.
  • The stock is synthetic beavertail, not a true chassis. It beds the action well but lacks the rigidity of aluminum chassis systems found on rifles like the Tikka T3x TAC A1.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Savage 110 Tactical still being made?

No. Savage discontinued the 110 Tactical. Remaining inventory exists at some dealers but new production has stopped. If you find one in stock, that stock is finite. Savage's current precision lineup has shifted toward the 110 Precision, which uses a similar AccuTrigger and AICS magazine format in an aluminum chassis.

What AICS magazines work with the 110 Tactical?

The 110 Tactical ships with one 10-round Magpul AICS magazine. It accepts any standard short-action AICS-pattern magazine in .308, including Magpul PMAG AC, MDT, and AI factory mags. The AICS format is widely available and inexpensive to add spare magazines for.

Can the AccuTrigger be adjusted below 1.5 lbs?

The factory floor is 1.5 lbs as set by Savage's safety stop. You can adjust within the 1.5–6 lb range using the included AccuTrigger tool with no action removal. Going below 1.5 lbs requires modifying the AccuTrigger safety lever, which voids the warranty and affects the passive safety mechanism — most precision shooters leave it at the low factory setting rather than modify it.
